Two Good Things

Alright a rare victory at work this past week. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks but things should slow down. I rarely talk about my personal life but sometimes it factors into my running, so I guess it doesn’t hurt to mention it.

I’ve been on the road for work the past couple weeks. The timing couldn’t have been better with the unfortunate knee/ligament injuries. I was able to focus on work without worrying about what I needed to do with running.

Today was good because I was able to get a good punishment on a felony trial. My client was found guilty (not surprising) and received an appropriate punishment. I can’t help but think that part of that sentence came from my work with him beforehand and at trial.

After I made it home I decided that I had gone long enough without running. I went out to the trails and ran 5 easy miles. I think my time was a pathetically slow 49 minutes but I finished it up without feeling any pain. I’ve been reading a lot of information about what happened to me and I’m convinced it was mostly from switching shoes to a type that doesn’t help my pronation. I’ll continue with more cross-training, but I’m going to slow down on the shoes that precepitated this injury.

8 Things About Me

I normally stay away from memes, but how could I turn down a request from the totally awesome Kara?

Eight totally random facts about me which are all true:

  • A car wreck when I was twelve left me with a collapsed lung which still isn’t 100%
  • Even after years of running and being in decent shape I’m not comfortable running shirtless.
  • A couple years ago it was difficult for me to run three miles. Now that’s a short run.
  • A couple years ago I hated to run with groups but now I love it.
  • Even though I’m not against it I’ve never dated a fellow runner.
  • It was when I was working 70-80 hour weeks that I started to run endurance events.
  • Occasionally I’m strangely fascinated by pro wrestling, perhaps because it’s a soap opera?
  • I own about eight pairs of running shoes and always look for more…

I challenge some of the great bloggers at 7 Hills Running Club (Adrienne, Ken, Norman, Rick, Holden, Katy, Jon, Edwin, and any others) to answer based on the following rules:

The Rules:
Each player starts with 8 random facts/habits about themselves.
People who are tagged, write a blog post about their own 8 random things, and post these rules.
At the end of your post you need to tag 8 people and include their names.
Don’t forget to leave them a comment and tell them they’ve been tagged, and to read your blog.

I’m still getting used to being back; I think I’ll run tomorrow.

I’m Back

Vacation is over and I’m back at home!

It looks like DFW is about to be hit by the winter storm that has been traveling southeast through much of the country. Of course, everyone that I work with is excited that this could shut down the city. Dallas is notoriously inept at handling wintry weather. In order to help, I told some of my friends that I would do a rain run tonight.

This isn’t exactly like a rain dance because I’m not running to please a god. I think that maybe god will want me to stop running at some point so god will make it rain so much that I go home. Little does god know that a wintry mix wouldn’t stop me - I have a good pair of running gloves.

Here’s hoping for a weather related day off work.

Starting Out

Welcome to my blog and the world of running. My name is Curtis and I’d consider myself a hobby runner who just enjoys the thrill of running. I am not a professional runner but I enjoy everything from road running to trail running. My preference is towards longer ultramarathon races but I enjoy everything from 5k’s to ultras. The information posted in this blog should provide a valuable resource to anyone from an avid runner to a newbie in the sport.
